Richfield Township Public Library

BORROWING POLICY

The following policies govern how we use our library.

LIBRARY CARD:

A library card may be obtained at the circulation desk. Any adult eighteen (18) years of age or older is eligible to apply for a library card. All applicants need to present a valid Michigan Driver’s License, State ID card, or a copy of your tax statement for Richfield Township.  Persons under the age of eighteen (18) are eligible for a Juvenile library card.  Juvenile applications require the presence and signature of a parent or legal guardian with a valid ID. There is no charge for your first card, but there is a $5.00 replacement fee. Please notify the library of any changes in your address and/or phone number. As soon as possible, please report lost or stolen cards to the library. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MATERIALS CHECKED OUT ON YOUR CARD.

CHECKOUT POLICY:

For the first checkout, new patrons will be limited to a maximum of three (3) items checked out to their card. After that first checkout:

BOOKS and AUDIOBOOKS:  May be checked out for three (3) weeks.

DVDs:    May be checked out for one (1) week. No more than three (3) DVDs may be checked out on a card, with a limit of no more than ten (10) DVDs per household (please include Interlibrary Loan Requests in this count)

MAGAZINES:  May be checked out for (1) week.

The Library has received funding from the federal Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) to purchase two Chromebooks. This grant also pays for the wireless service on our existing WiFi Hotspots. Any ECF supported equipment and services can only be provided to patrons who declare they do not have access to the equipment or services sufficient to access the internet.

CIRCULATION:

The borrowing time period is listed above. Library materials may be renewed one time, in person or by phone, during regular business hours.  Additional renewals may be authorized by Library Staff on a case by case basis. New releases and materials on the reserve list for other patrons cannot be renewed. Failure to return borrowed materials can be reported to the Richfield Township Police.

INTERLIBRARY LOANS (MeLCat):

An item can be borrowed from another library when our library does not have the requested material. You may request interlibrary loan materials directly through the mel.org website or you may request them through Library Staff.  The MeLCat loan period on most items is 3 weeks, and you can renew them once online during the week before the original due date.  Items with a one week loan period cannot be renewed, per MeLCat policy.  All requested materials will be sent to our Library for processing and we will call you once they arrive.
